What is the best thing to take for the flu season?
I have tried many things in the past: Vit C, Zinc, Echinacea, Goldenseal, Yin Chiao,
Garlic, etc... but I have found that the protocol below works the best.

For prevention
Colostrum 1500 mg 2 times a day on an empty stomach.

For treatment, within the first 24 hours up to 48 hours
Colostrum 3000 mg 2-3 times a day on an empty stomach
AND
Sambucus(sugar-free Elderberry) 1 Tsp x 4 a day on empty stomach

Colostrum
Colostrum is the pre-milk substance that comes out of a mother's breasts after delivery
of a newborn. It helps to protect the newborn from an unfamiliar unclean environment.
There are 3.5 studies that show that Colostrum is better than the flu vaccine:

1. This study shows that
"The number of episodes registered with the immunomodulators (colostrum and
probiotics) was significantly lower than those observed in patients using vaccination or
no prevention. In conclusion, the administration of immunomodulators is very costeffective a and appears to be more effective than vaccination to prevent flu."
Belcaro G, et al. Prevention of flu episodes with colostrum and Bifivir compared with
vaccination: an epidemiological, registry study. Panminverva Med. 2010 Dec:52(4):
269-75.

2. This study shows that
"a novel and commercially scalable technique for preparing (antibodies) from
hyperimmune bovine colostrum could allow production of a valuable substitute for
antiviral drugs to control influenza with the advantage of eliminating the need for daily
administration."
Ng WC, et al. Prevention and treatment of influenza with hyperimmune bovine
colostrum antibody. PLoS One. 2010 Oct 26:5(10):e13622.

3. This study shows that
"The incidence of complications and hospital admission was higher in the group that
received only a vaccination compared with the colostrum groups. Colostrum, both in
healthy subjects and high-risk cardiovascular patients, is at least 3 times more effective
than vaccination to prevent flu and is very cost-effective."
Cesarone MR, Belcaro G, Di RenzoA, Dugall M, Cacchio M, Ruffini I, Pellegrini L, Del
Boccio G,Fano F, Ledda A, Bottari A, Ricci A, Stuard S, Vinciguerra G. Prevention of
influenza episodes with Colostrum compared with vaccination in healthy and high-risk
cardiovascular subjects. Clin Appl Thromb Hemost. 2007:13(2):130-6.

3.5. Is there such thing as a 0.5 study?
This study was never completed, but the results were clear:
A doctor conducted a placebo-controlled study with a day-care center in Salt Lake city.
After two months, the parents of the children receiving only the placebo chewables
noticed that the kids in the real chewables group were almost free from colds, flu,
allergies and other respiratory ailments. These parents demanded to know which
children received the real chewables or they would quit the day-care center!
The only caution is that the Colostrum contains casein, so avoid if you are allergic to
casein.

Sambucus
Sambucus is the sugar-free version of Sambucol, an Elderberry extract from Israel,
which has been shown to be very effective against many flu strains. So far, it works

Have a nice flu-free Holiday Season!
Best of Health,
Huy Hoang, M.D.
